Cause in this moment I just feel so alive…
What a difference a year makes. Love or hate her, Nicki Minaj is here. For every person she infuriates, she inspires two more. And she grew up on Jamaica Ave., so her fighter spirit comes as no surprise.
I won’t tout my opinion about Nicki Minaj, but throughout the year, I’ve watched a young artist experiment and find her sound. She’s been scrutinized for being a top contender in a men’s game. She’s been judged by females over the age of 21, yet she was one of the most popular Halloween costumes this year. Go figure.
Never before have I seen an artist so hyperaware of fame’s fleetingness. Especially not one who can go bar for bar with Eminem, and was saluted by Roxanne Shante. I will say that it’s pretty sad that Lil Kim’s reaction to young talent was to attack rather than collaborate.
Nicki has not reached her greatest potential on Pink Friday, but she’s established herself as an artist with extraordinary promise.
